Economics Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Economics - Term Paper Example My point throughout the paper is what I had emphasized at the beginning of the previous paragraph. The contention here is that the world needs trade more than anything else and hence it would be prudent on the part of the governments of the world not to jettison free trade and globalization. I discuss the reasons for the current economic slowdown and the efforts of the government in containing the crisis and providing relief to the beleaguered sectors of the economy. I make the point that the current administration is taking steps to revive the economy, though the effects of those steps may not be felt in the short term. I make the case for international trade, albeit with a different focus by learning from the mistakes of the past. The indebtedness of the US economy vis-à -vis the Chinese economy is discussed along with some suggestions to redress the balance. The US economy has been going through a period of turbulence for the last few years. The economic downturn that began in 2007 and is continuing to this day is a manifestation of the excessive credit policies and bad lending practices coupled with poor regulatory oversight by the authorities. The combination of these factors has ensured that the credit bubble when it burst did really cause the entire global economic system to go into a severe contraction. What makes this crisis different from the periodic cyclical downturns one witnesses during alternating periods of boom and bust is that this crisis has been caused by borrowing and lending practices that were highly questionable and on top of that excessive leveraging of the financial sector meant that the sectorââ¬â¢s contribution. As Kevin Philips (2009) notes, ââ¬Å"The principal wave of credit card use for debt consolidation and consumption crested in 2005, but industry growth had been enormous. Over the period from 1990 to 2003, the number

The Affordable Care Act Essay Example for Free
The Affordable Care Act Essay The Affordable Care Act objective is to decrease health care expenses through services presented to individuals at this time that cant acquire insurance. Individuals in society with no healthcare insurance regularly use hospital emergency departments as their primary care physician (PCP), which increases cost for everybody. Some advantages to Affordable Care Act are: Preventive services are free, which drops health care costs by handling illnesses in advance, so they wonââ¬â¢t reach an expensive crisis. On behalf of individuals who donââ¬â¢t have sufficient amount of money for health insurance, the Federal government will compensate the states for adding individuals to the Medicaid program. The income condition is stretched out up to 133% of the Federal poverty level, roughly $31,000 for a family of four according to (The Affordable Care Act). Individuals who are not eligible for extended Medicaid is given tax credits. States are required to set up insurance interactions, or use the Federal governments exchange. Insurance businesses cannot reject children coverage for pre-existing illnesses. Insurance businesses can no longer drop someone from coverage when they have an illness. If a company rejects somebodyââ¬â¢s coverage, that individual can go to an external appeals method. Parents can put their children up to age 26 on their health insurance plans. Obamacare does not relate to businesses with less than 50 employees at their company. Big businesses are obligated to offer health insurance, but receive tax credits to benefit staffs premiums. Disadvantages to Affordable Care Act do exist. There are millions of people who presently purchase private health insurance. American has canceled their own insurance company because the plan doesnt benefits the living health status or situation. Replacing insurance is greater since it provides various services, like maternity care, that many people dont want. Those who dont purchase insurance by March 31, 2014, and dont qualify for Medicaid, willà be assessed a tax of $95 (or 1% of income, whichever is higher) in 2014 according to (Healthcare reformation, CNN.com). Pharmaceutical corporations will pay an additiona l fee to close the gap which exists in Medicare Part D. This may possibly increase drug prices if they permit this onto users. General public could lose their company sponsored health care plans. A lot of companies will find it more cost operative to pay the penalty. Other small businesses might find they can get a better plan through the state-run exchanges according to (ââ¬Å"The Effects of the Affordable Care Act on Employment-Based Health Insuranceâ⬠). Services and equipment that supports individuals with injuries, disabilities, or chronic, the Obamacare plans will also cover goods and services to help you preserve a standard of living if you contract a chronic disease. The Affordable Care Act keeps insurers from cutting benefits to lower costs. Do you think they be required to raise people premiums? Not certainly, since their returns will increase as millions of people uninsured start paying premiums. Republicans holds much more negative views of The Affordable Care Act and the federal government than Democrats. Furthermore, when told that the federal government (rather than the state) will implement their exchange program, Republicans are far less self-reliant that program will prosper. Democrats oppositely were at least as confident in the federal governmentââ¬â¢s capacity to manage the exchanges as they were in the statesââ¬â¢. These differences in observations, together with the opinionated makeup of states that have opt ed for state versus federal implementation of the health insurance exchanges, have the prospective to lead to further overall disbelief of the federal government and greater separation across states and parties. Practically all Republican states are opting for federally managed exchange programs and nearly all Democratic states are opting to run the exchanges themselves. As a result, federally run health insurance exchanges are likely to experience more struggles than are state-run exchanges, but not necessarily due to shortcomings of the federal government. Reasonably, the struggles of federally run exchanges will stem from biased disagreement to health care reform at the state level. Due to the baffling role of opinionated time-wasting, we cannot unswervingly associate states with federally run platforms to those with state run programs to evaluate which level of government is more capable of performing this difficult policy reform. Theà problem arises when each state has dissimilar preferences, and based on those choices, the states ââ¬Å"categoryâ⬠into two sets: one group that wants to, and does, receive the treatment, and one group that does not want to, and therefore does not, receive the treatment. Republicans plan to challenge health care reform, and then criticize that it does not work, although attributing guilt to the Obama administration. For the time being, states with Democratic governance want the reform to succeed, and likely to work together with the federal government. In an effort to help the policy prosper, these states are taking a more hands on approach and applying the contacts themselves. In addition, in states where both the federal and state governments want the reform to succeed, the program will be well applied and public approval of health care reform, the state government, and also the federal government will rise. The ability of the House of Representatives and the Senate to approve this legislation scored a historic victory in the century long battle to reform the nations health care winning final approval of legislation that expands coverage to 32 million people and attempts to contain spiraling costs. The House voted 219 to 212 to approve the measure, with every Republican voting. Over the next 10 years, the measure will set in gesture a complex series of deviations to the health insurance market that will transform into the biggest enlargement of coverage since Medicare and Medicaid were created in 1965, and the most aspiring power ever to restrain health-care costs. Presidents as far back as Theodore Roosevelt have rued the nations approach to health coverage, a structure that assists fairly well to 150 million Americans who have health insurance through their jobs but offers few affordable choices for individuals who work part time, are independent or work for establishments that dont propose health benefits. The bill will affect almost every man, woman and youngster in the United States in some way, from the young adults who establish one of the largest uninsured groups to poor and childless adults who are not eligible for Medicaid in most states. The healthcare debate affected many moral issues in American life The impact on the American consumer is very important. These authorized assistances will allow more individuals to find and treat chronic illnesses beforehand. Millions of families will be able to dodge economic failure by receiving treatment early, or by having the insurance to cover these expenses. In theà forthcoming, this ought to lower health care costs by reducing disastrous care. Many people will get insurance, thanks to the motherhood, newborn and pediatric care. This will reduce health insurance charges overall. Near to the ground income drug addicts, alcoholics and the mentally ill will have insurance coverage to aid their circumstances. While no one can make them to get spotless, clear-headed, defensive coverage can show. Ping Sweep and Port Scans Essay Example for Free
Ping Sweep and Port Scans Essay Information system threats are central to developments in information systems and should be viewed positively. Introduction The emergence of computers effectively led to a change in the approach to business operations. Information technology led to the development of a completely different approach to operations and is cited as a key driver to globalization which is central to the high level of competition being experienced in different industries. High levels of competition have led to an increase in the need for security since information is central to identification of opportunities and development of innovative approaches to operation. The internet as an information superhighway is especially laced with all kinds of security threats. Protocols are continuously being developed to try and ensure high levels of security; however the threats have managed to stay abreast due to the diversity they exhibit. Ping Sweep There are different modes used by an attacker to gain and interfere with the operations of a system. However, most attacks require a system to be active and therefore implement a mechanism to detect the activity of a system. Ping is one such technique that has found use in by both black and white hat hackers. The first step in the hackersââ¬â¢ manual is to determine the activity of a network and its connection status to the internet after which codes are subjected to the system to try and gain its control (Kurtz, McClure, Scambray, 2005). The actual mechanism involved in ping operations includes sending network packets and awaiting some unique response that will show the activity of the system. To effectively attack a network an attacker must gather as much information as possible; this is done by a ping sweep (Kurtz et al, 2005). A number of ping operations are done and each targeted at a specific IP address (Kurtz et al, 2005). To be effective in remote information collection, multithreaded sweep tools that allow for customized time-outs (Kurtz et al, 2005). Port Scanning The threats posed by ping operations are known to all administrators who often developed mechanisms to ensure that their security is not compromised. Open hosts are a key security threat and can be used by attackers to deal a deathly blow to systems (Scambray, McClure, 2007). Port scanning as a system maintenance mechanism is mainly concerned with searching network hosts to determine which ports are open. Administrators and crackers use port scanners which are software component to determine states of networks thus their vulnerability. Scanning can take on different approaches which include TCP, UDP or SYN scanning (Scambray, McClure, 2007). It is worth noting that the objective of the scanner determines the effects that the scanning activity will have on the network or system. A port scanning mechanism where multiple hosts are scanned to determine the one that is listening is referred to as a port sweep (Scambray, McClure, 2007). Implication Port scanning and ping sweeps can be dangerous depending on the objectives of the person or entity initiating them. They can be considered system threats or maintenance procedures depending on whether they are being initiated by a hacker or a system analyst. There are several approaches that have been developed to minimize the risk of malicious ping sweeps against a network. Disabling ICMP protocols for networks connected directly to the internet and configurations of firewalls to do the same is effective in dealing with ping sweeps (Kurtz et al, 2005). Port scanning is used to gather information on a networks security which can then be used to cause malfunctions such as buffer overflows. Conclusion Port scans and ping sweeps can be used by administrators and hackers and are thus both beneficial and risk causing. Managers should ensure that their systems are developed in a manner that is security conscious in that even if it is scanned no security weakness should be discovered. Dealing with the threat of port scan can cause inefficiencies though ping sweeps can be dealt with effectively. Developing a robust network that is near perfect is the ultimate approach to dealing with the threats posed by ping seeps and port scans which are just information seeking mechanisms. Being aware that versatile and creative hackers are in a position to scan a system is motivation enough to ensure system security is kept up to date with development in information technology. Thus, scanners and sweepers are motivators behind the development and improvements in information strategies aimed at development of secure information systems. Role of Clays in Metal Adsorption
Role of Clays in Metal Adsorption ââ¬Å"ADSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS (Fe, Zn, Cr, Pb, Ni) WITH SOME AGRICULTURAL SOILS AND CORRELATION TO PHYSICO ââ¬â CHEMICAL AND SPECTRAL ANALYSIS (including XRD, FTIR, Zeta potential, Particle size)â⬠INTRODUCTION Role of Clays in Metal Adsorption Soil is one of the key components for every single terrestric biological system. It gives the supplement bearing environment for vegetation and it is important for exchange of biomass and degradation. Soil is an extremely complex medium, which contains of soil matrix like minerals, organic matter and liquid phases, which connect with one another and ions particles entering the soil system [Ubaet al., 2009]. Soils get contamination due to accumulation of heavy metals and metalloids through discharge from rapidly developing industrial ranges, mine tailings, transfer of high metal squanders, leaded fuel and paints, land use of manures, fertilizers, wastewater system, sewage, pesticides, coal burning deposits, and spillage of petrochemicals [S. Khan 2008]. Heavy power metals constitute a non specific groups of inorganic compound, and most generally found at contaminated sites are lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), arsenic (As), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), mercury (Hg), and nickel (Ni) [ GWRTAC 1997]. Soils are more important for heavy metals discharged into environment conditions by previously stated anthropogenic movements and dissimilar to natural contaminants which are oxidized to carbon (IV) oxide by microbial activity, most metals dont experience substance decomposition, and their total fixation in soils holds for a quite long time after their production [D. C. Adriano 2003]. Changes in their chemical structures (speciation) and bioavailability are possible. The toxic metals in soil can be extremely hindering the biodegradation of natural contaminants. Heavy metal contamination to the soil may let to high risk for humans and the biological system through, contaminated of soil, drinking of debased ground water, food chain decreases in the area, use for agricultural production causing food nourishment, and land issues [M. J. McLaughlin 2000]. 1.2 Dominant Types of Clays in Various Types of Soils There are mainly five types of soils, these types of soils are combined with three types of endures such as sand, clay, slit and the rock particles are made up by the soil. Soil Type: Sandy Sandy soil has the largest particles among the different types of soil. It is very dry and rough to touch, because the particles have huge spaces between them, it canââ¬â¢t hold the water because due to large crack the water will drains rapidly. Soil Type: Silty Silty soil has much smaller particles than sandy soil, and it is very fine and smooth to feel. During moistening condition, it is like lathered, silty soil retains water for longer time not like as sandy soil. Soil Type: Clay Clay soil has the smallest fine particles among the three so it has very good quality of water storage. It is sticky to touch while in wet, but it is smooth in dry condition. Then it slowly drains the water and it has a tighter hold on plant nutrients. Clay soil is rich in plant food for their better growth. Soil Type: Peaty Peaty soil is dark brown or black in color. It is soft and easily condensed due to its high water content, and rich in organic matter. Peaty soil is been mount by several years ago due to rapid melting of larva. Peaty contains acidic water, but growers use it to regulate soil chemistry or pH levels as well as an agent of disease control for the soil. Soil Type: Saline Soil Saline soil present in the dry regions and it is usually brackish because of high salt content, known as saline soil; it can cause damage and stall plant growth, hinder germination, and cause difficulties during irrigation. Agricultural Pollution as A Source of Heavy Metal It is more important to identify the sources and status of soil contamination by heavy metals, to take proper treatments to reduce soil contamination and agricultural pollution. (1)Natural source The early origin of heavy metals in soils are the initial materials from which the soils were determined, yet the impact of initial materials are on the total focus and manifestations of metals in soils is adjusted to changing the degrees by pedogenetic methods (Herawati et al., 2000). The regions influenced elegantly by human actions, were heavy metals in the soils are primarily derived from pedogenetic initial materials, and metals collection status was influenced by a few elements for example, soil moisturizes. These components were connected with indigenous clay minerals in the high soil in Al and Fe. (2) Fertilizers and agrochemicals Heavy metals The input of cropland soils, the fertilizers are expanding the concern toward their potential risk to the natural environment. [Lu et al. 1992] reported that the phosphate fertilizers are the major source for trace metals among every inorganic fertilizer, and there should be more attention to add Cd in the phosphate fertilizer. Soils in southern Asian nations have Phosphate necessities, so that histories of phosphate fertilizer is connected with polluting influences (Cd, Cu, As, and Zn), appear to be more noteworthy on these nations [Zarcinas et al., 2004]. Horticultural utilization of pesticides was another source of heavy metals in arable soils from non-contamination. Despite the fact that pesticides containing Cd, Hg and Pb had been forbidden, there were still other elements containing pesticides in presence, particularly copper and zinc. The plant accessible metal substance in the soil shoes the highest amount of Fe and least level of Ni. (3)Wastewater irrigation Waste water irrigation can reduce the water shortage to some extent, but it can also bring some toxic materials, to agricultural soils, especially heavy metals, and cause serious environmental problems. This is particularly a problem in densely populated countries where pressure on irrigation water resources is extremely high [Patel 2005]. Biosolids are increasingly used as soil ameliorants and streams and rivers are the primary source of water for irrigation. (4) Sewage sludge application In spite of the fact that the substance of toxic metals in sewage sludge had been notably decreased, and the greater part of them were below the national release standard of contaminations for civil wastewater treatment plants, because of the immense increment in the measure of wastewater treated, the sewage are mean increasing rapidly. In the agriculture areas of Hyderabad, Pakistan, researchers concentrating on the impact of long time wastewater sludge on the concentrations of heavy metals in soil irrigated with fresh canal water (SIFW) and soil irrigated with waste water (SIDWS) are as take after: the mean concentrations of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd are 11.2, 105, 21.1 and 1.6 mg kg-1, in soil of SIFW and 32.2, 209, 67.4 and 4.3 mg kg-1 in soil of SIDWS. The absorption of metals in the soil of SIDWS is higher than in SIFW. The high rate of Cd and Cr in SIDWS, are credited into waste matter from small commercial industries (tanneries and batteries) arranged in domestic area (Jamali et al., 2007). Factors Governing Adsorption ââ¬â Desorption in Soil The adsorption-desorption phenomena of pesticides in soils are of incredible significance from the environment. Pesticide action influences different methodologies like transport, volatilization and bioaccumulation, which pressure the compounds in the soil [M. Kumar 2006]. The clay and the organic matter content inclined the adsorption-desorption process considerably. Adsorption and desorption factors governs the compost soil had shown the maximum adsorption capacity. In order, adsorption capacities of various soils were compost soil, clayey soil, red soil, and sandy soil. Adsorption will increase the organic matter content of the soils. Adsorption was exothermic in nature. Clay content and organic matter played a significant role in pesticide adsorption and desorption processes. The physical phenomenon increases in the organic matter and clay content of the soils. Desorption process of pesticides is also important since it determines the potential mobility of pesticides in soil [Ram a Krishna 2008]. 1.5. Types of Soils in India There are mainly six types of soils in India and the Soil is classified according by the factors on the basis of pH, depth, colour, productivity, texture and process of formation [Raychaudhari 1963]. 1. Alluvial Soils 2. Black Soils 3. Red Soils 4. Laterite Soils 5. Mountain Soils 6. Desert Soils Alluvial Soils It is the most important type of soil found in India covering about 40 per cent of the total land area. These are formed by the deposition of sediments by rivers. They are found in Great Northern plain, Tapti and lower valleys of Narmada and Northern Gujarat. These soils are renewed every year; it is very fertile and contributes the largest share of agricultural wealth. This soil supports almost half of the Indian population. The fertility of the alluvial soil varies from place to place. The alluvial soils contain adequate potash, phosphoric acid and lime. They are generally deficient in organic and nitrogenous contents. The fine particles of sediment, sand and clay are called as alluvium. The alluvial soil can be classified into two types such as old alluvium, additionally called bangar, and new alluvium, called khadar. The new alluvium is deposited in the flood plains and deltas. These areas are flooded almost every year. khadar soil is sandy and light in colour Khaddar soil is more fertile The old alluvium is found on the higher side (i.e. about 25 meters) of the river valleys. The bhangar soil is clayey and dark. The bhangar soil is less fertile Black Soils The black soil is mostly called as regur; it is derived from Telugu word reguda. It is moreover called as Black Cotton Soil, whereas cotton is the most essential product developed in this soil. The black soil has been formed by thousands of years prior, because of the hardening of volcanic lava. Black soil is mostly found thought over Deccan Lava areas which include parts of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It comprises of calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate Lime, Iron, Magnesium furthermore Potash however needs in Phosphorus, Nitrogen and Organic matter. The black soil is made up of extremely fine clay material and it is well-known for its capacity to hold moisture. Red Soil The red soil is formed due to weathering of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Its redness is because of iron content. At the point when iron substance is low it is yellow or cocoa colour. The red soil occupies around 10% area of India, for the most part in the south-eastern piece of the Peninsular India. The red soil is found in Tamil Nadu, southeast Maharashtra, eastern parts of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. This red soil is rich in potash, yet poor in lime, nitrogen and phosphate. 4. Laterite Soil Laterite has been derived from a Latin word means ââ¬Ëbrickââ¬â¢. The Laterite soil is formed under conditions of high temperature and heavy rainfall with wet and dry conditions. The Laterite soil is in red colour and made out of little mud and much rock of red sandstones. The Laterite soil is broadly spread in India and is basically found on the summits of the Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats, Rajmahal Hills, Vindhyas, Satpuras and Malwa level. They are generally found in Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and sloping ranges of Assam and Orissa. Laterite soil is generally poor in lime and lacking in nitrogen and the phosphate substance are high. Mountain Soils The mountain soil is usually found on the hill slopes covered with forests. It is formed as a result of the accumulation of organic matter derived from forest growth. This soil is rich in humus, but poor in potash, lime and phosphorus. They are found in Himalayan areas and indicated by altitude. The north-facing slopes generally support soil cover. Aside from the Himalayan region, this soil is also found in the Western and Eastern Ghats and in some parts of the Peninsular India. The mountain soil is sandy with rock and is permeable. Desert Soils In desert area, the soils are not well developed. The desert soil is found generally in the dry and semi-dry areas, getting less than 50 cm of yearly rainfall. The desert soil has sand (90 to 95 every penny) and clay (5 to 10 every penny). Such areas are generally found in Rajasthan and the adjoining regions of Haryana and Punjab. The Rann of Kachchh in Gujarat is an expansion of this region. These soils are generally sandy and insufficient in organic matter. In a few regions this soil has high rate of solvent salts, yet needs in organic matter. 1.6 Soils in Andhra Pradesh The circumstance has three main physiographic regions such as the coastal plain, Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats. The coastal plain is also known as the Andhra region, it runs almost the entire length of the state and it is surrounded by several rivers, flowing from west to east through the hills into the bay. The deltas are formed by most important riversââ¬âthe Godavari and the Krishnaââ¬âbuild the central part of the plains, an area of fertile alluvial soil [Govinda Rajan 1971]. Andhra Pradesh is one of the major producers of rice in the country and one of the best in producing additional cash crops too. The types of soil, which are usually found in Andhra Pradesh, are: Red soil, alluvial soil, Black soil, Saline soil, Laterite soil, and Peaty soil. Northern Black Soils (NBS) The black soils situated in the districts of Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar East and West Godavari constitutes the Northern Black soils. Central Black Soils (CBS) The black soils are obtainable in Krishna and Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh as in the position of central region. Southern Black Soils (SBS) The black soils are present in Nellore districts and Prakasam nearer to the coast from the Southern black soils. Southern Light Soils (SLS) The light soils existing in Prakasam and Nellore districts constitute the southern light soils (SLS). Northern Light Soils (NLS) The light soils existing from East and West Godavari and parts of Khammam districts constitute the Northern light soils (NLS). These Light soils mostly exist in the Vijayanagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Picture of Dorian Gray Essay -- Literary Analysis, Oscar Wilde
Many people influence our lives, shaping the way we act, talk, and even think. People can affect others in many positive ways; however, they can also corrupt the people around them. In Oscar Wildeââ¬â¢s The Picture of Dorian Gray, Lord Henry influences Dorian Gray to the point where Dorian loses all respect, dignity, and integrity that he had and eventually leads him to experience his downfall. In William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello, Iago clearly feels no allegiance to even one other character in the play yet he makes each feel as if he is his or her personal confidant and most trustworthy friend and advisor. Dorian Gray influences over unfortunate youths and leads them to their destruction. Finally, the society has a profound influence over Alan Campbell and Basil and they eventually meet their downfall due to the influence. Dorian Grayââ¬â¢s downfall rests in his willingness to sacrifice himself to Lord Henryââ¬â¢s vision. When Lord Henry first meets Dorian Gray, he notices Dorian Grayââ¬â¢s beauty. Lord Henry tells Dorian that youth and beauty are the finest of all treasures, and they should be cherished and guarded because they quickly fade. Recollecting the words of Lord Henry, Dorian first recognizes the extraordinary beauty and youth in the portrait and then is pained by the thought of losing it. He envies the figure in the painting, and wishes, ââ¬Å"If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture was to grow old! For that-for that- I would give everything!â⬠(p.28) Lord Henry's words on youth and beauty influence Dorian to make this wish. His wish was granted and the painting will show his sins and his age while Dorian would remain young. As Dorian observes the portrait alter more each time he does something unpleasant, he realizes that ... ...t Dorian even though he does not want to. The society informed Basil about the reality of Dorian. By informing Basil, Basil begins to think thoughts that he would not normally think. "When I first heard them, I laughed. I hear them now, and they make me shudder" (p.145). Basil loses his individual thoughts as a result of the society's influence. Iago, Lord Henry, Dorian Gray, and the society provide others with negative influence that often leads to their own downfall. By adopting another person's ideas one gives up his or her own individual responsibility because they are not acting as the individual they represent. If another character communicates with Lord Henry, Lord Henry will preach his own ideas to the character and will make him lose his own individual thoughts. By adopting Lord Henry's thoughts, the character will experience the dangers of influence.

The impact of Sexual Abuse on Children Essay -- Child Abuse, Physical
It was not until recent that studies would present the impact sexual abuse has had on children. Little is known about adults who have been sexually abused. A sexually abused child has been an unspoken phrase dating as far back as the early 1970s (Finkelhor, 1984). Studies on those children who have been sexually abused are rare, although they are presented at a disproportionate rate to their counterparts. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is based on official statistics which concurs with the preceding statement (Briere & Runtz 1986). According to the National Incidence Studies, there has been a 67 percent increase in all forms of abuse from the years 1986 to 1993 involving children. Although there was a decrease of child sexual abuse, of the 67 percent only 10 percent comprised of child sexual abuse cases (Jones, 2001). Various reasons have been the cause for this decrease, such asâ⬠¦.. Child sexual abuse is a topic spoken about very loosely in the era we now live. After conducting my research, I would later learn that empirical research would guide me into journals with a broader spectrum on the topic. This topic interests me in more ways than one. Although my research does not deal with the mind frame of the offender, it does help me understand victimology or the relationship between the offender and the victim; which will be discussed later in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to determine the impact of sexual abuse on juvenile victims, if any at all. A meta-analysis will be conducted combining at least ten (10) professional journals and books. The importance of this study depicts the everlasting traumatic effect that sexual abuse has on children and whether the impact is no more than immediate or ... ...xual abuse was rare early on, when conducted it was combined with adults who too were abused. Some studies specified child abuse by gender, focusing either on boys, or only girls. Methodologies used by researchers had some limitations as well. Some depended on clinicianââ¬â¢s reports rather than self-reports from the victim. In early research, longitudinal studies were not conducted. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis reconfirms prior research findings; the impact of child sexual abuse can be traumatic, everlasting, and symptomatic. Nevertheless, some sexually abused children may never experience any interpersonal symptoms. These findings have a number of important implications for theory development (Tackett, Williams, & Finkelhor). There has not been a proven relationship between sexual abuse and suicide since a third event can produce both (Briere & Elliot).
Parents :: Relationships Parenting Essays
Parents Pushy parents are a very touchy subject to talk about. When it comes to the well fare of children, people are always ready to jump and point fingers at others without gathering the facts. The parents of theatre, gifted, and talented children get these nasty fingers pointed at them and most are due to the generalization that the media has made portraying these parents as mean, self righteous, and abusive. The honest truth is that parents care for their children and are not pushy, but instead they direct their children in becoming good adults by protecting them, encouraging them, and being dedicated to them. In his review of The Trouble With Perfect/The Successful Child/Positive Pushing (Book), Douglas C. Lord talks about the role of the parent. The role of the parent is to protect their children and provide for them all they can to insure that they have the proper tools in order to be successful in life. These tools include such things as having good morals, strong work ethics, phenomenal character, etc. Providing their kids with the mentioned tools, parents protect their kids from becoming failures in life and give them the option to make something of themselves, which far exceeds the expectations of their parents. Parents have to do these things in order to direct their kids. This is believed to be an ââ¬Å"absolute moral imperativeâ⬠(Lord). If your parents did not provide you with these tools, where would you be? ââ¬Å"Pageant moms are the worst,â⬠is something that I heard once. This I have to say is false. The moms and dads of the performing art children have to be the most dedicated parents I personally have ever seen. These parents spend all of their time and energy helping their kids exceed and they always remind their kids of how much they love them. These are almost the craziest and most fanatic parents of them all. They follow their children from competition to competition, from performance to performance, from dance class to rehearsals. These parents are always there and are always willing to help.
